MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The annual Leonid Meteor shower peaks out tonight but especially Thursday morning between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Lie back in a lawn chair and roll your eyes all around the sky and especially in the dark countryside you may see 10 to 20 meteors or “shooting stars” an hour.
We would see more meteors from the Leonids this year, but the light from the waning full moon will wash many of the Leonids. Shame on the moon!
Meteor showers occur when the Earth in its orbit around the sun cross a debris trail left behind by a comet. The “parent” comet for the Leonids is the comet Tempel Tuttle.
